UCSB Anthropology Brown Bag Lecture Series Presents:
Style, Technology, and Social Interaction in the Late Prehistoric American Southwest
By Cynthia Herhahn
The Late Prehistoric Period (ca. A.D. 1300-1450) in the Southwest
shows evidence of large scale population movements, shifts in settlement
patterns, and the spread of a pan-regional pottery style argued to
represent the spread of a regional cult. An analysis of the technological
style of Rio Grande glazeware attempts to elucidate the kinds of social
interactions through which this pottery style diffused in order to assess
more localized social implications of a pan-regional style.
