UCSB Anthropology Brown Bag Lecture Series Presents:
The Transition to Agriculture in Central Europe
By Dr. Michael Jochim
The traditional model of agricultural origins in Europe that
emphasized population immigration and replacement has been seriously
reevaluated in many parts of the continent in light of growing evidence
of contributions by local populations. In Central Europe, however, the
traditional model has remained the dominant interpretation. Recent work
suggests that this model is, at the very least, too simplistic, and that
the cultural landscape of the transitional period is more complex than
previously thought. This recent work will be discussed.
