UCSB Anthropology Brown Bag Lecture Series Presents:

The Ackee Fruit Tree in Limon Costa Rica: Connections between Cultural and Biological Diversity

By Joseph B. Powell

Culture can serve as conduit for the introduction and subsequent dispersal of many useful plants. Individuals' private yards are one important port of entry for such plants. This discussion recounts the connections between Jamaican culture and the ackee fruit tree in Limon Costa Rica. Theoretical and applied implications of the connection between people and plants will be introduced for discussion.

Wednesday, November 6, 1-2 P.M.
