Mexico in a Global World
Activity: Discuss 3 issues that portray what you have learned in class concerning Mexico and its dilemmas
Aims:
- Round up main ideas discussed in class
- Discuss Mexico’s dilemmas vis-à-vis global change
Background:
We have read and discussed critical issues pertaining Mexico and its dilemmas, including tradition, modernity and change. Now we need to round up, but the idea is to make arguments and back them up with clear and concise information.
Tasks:
- Go through your reader and your class notes. Select 3 issues you consider most important to understand Mexico and the processes it is undergoing.
- Complement this information with data from other sources.
Hand in
A 4 page document (spacing 1.5, Font Arial or Times New Roman, 12 points) that includes an
- Introduction, giving us general information about the issues that have been selected.
- A section for each issue selected, which includes
- 1.- the issue to be discussed
- 2.- the perspective(s) from which it is tackled
- 3.- the social and economic implications
- 4.- data to back your argument
- A concluding section where you discuss the possible routes of change.
- Each section should be headed by a subtitle to give the reader an idea of what is included in it
- Make sure you reference your sources properly.
- Name of the author, year and page number in parenthesis in the text. For example (Smith 1992: 52).
- Then include this reference in full in the bibliography. For example: Smith, Ruben (1992) The Social Implication of Commodity Production. London. Routledge
