Professor Hatch has two primary research interests, the first of which is history and theory in anthropology. He has published two books on this topic, and he is now completing a set of articules dealing with the relativity of knowledge and the nature of cultural theory. Second is the study of small communities in modern, Western societies. He has conducted field research in small, rural communities in both California, New Zealand, and in a small county in the mountains of North Carolina.
