Tagging Experiments  Topo

The project's multidisciplinary approach involves combining the strengths of anthropological research with current marine science methods in order to build a complete picture of the ecology and current status of endangered species in the Roviana Lagoon. This approach will allow us to formulate sound management measures to protect threatened marine species. An example of such research is Richard Hamilton’s ongoing work on the bumphead parrotfish (see upper right image) (Bolbometopon muricatum) and Humphead Maori wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus). These species are pivotal components of healthy reef ecosystem and both species have come under heavy fishing pressure in the Roviana Lagoon in recent years. Aspects of Richard's present research include several approaches.
