Current Research Projects

Image: Eyes on the PrizeI continue to conduct research in Europe, and have published numerous articles and a book on the impact of the European Union. For a discussion of Bridging Divides: The Channel Tunnel and English Legal Identity in the New Europe (1999) and other works see Publications.

Other projects that I am working on include intellectual property in non-western contexts, the social and cultural implications of gated communities, the laws relating to gambling and land rights on Native American Indian reservations, and human rights and the neo-imperialistic and violent implications of legal globalization.

Image: Global CitiesMy major focus at the moment is writing a book manuscript Culture, Custom, Power, Law: The Implications of Legal Anthropology for the Study of Law.

I am also developing an instructional development project on the impact of global cities, and for which I am developing a nifty website that is being funded by an Instructional Development Grant and which can be viewed at http://www.sscf.ucsb.edu/~cities/index.html
