Exercise 1-1-A Brief History of Archaeology

  1. Introduction
  2. Timeline
  3. Conclusion

Introduction

These web pages are designed to provide you with a graphical representation of the developmental history of archaeology from earliest Classical times to the present. The history is presented as a timeline starting at 600 BC and extending to AD 2000. Along the timeline there are triangular markers that indicate important events in the history of archaeology. Clicking on a marker will take you to a brief description of the event. You can return to the timeline by clicking on the "Back" button at the top of your web browser.

All of this material is keyed into your readings in the text book and in the Study Guide. You may either peruse these web pages before reading the material to get a clear picture of the timing of events described in the reading, or you may choose to do the reading first, and review the material by using these web pages.
