Giving to the Department of Anthropology Fund For Excellence

A gift to the Department of Anthropology Fund for Excellence helps us attract and retain students with great academic potential, creativity, and motivation. Your gift may be used in a myriad of ways -- all critical to our mission of education and research. Your gift may support programs, scholarships, fellowships, professorships, technological innovations, research, renovations, and new facilities. And, please know that no matter how large or how small, every gift makes a difference.

Specific Giving Opportunities
Several funds have been established to support specific department activities as some donors prefer to designate their gifts for a specific department purpose.

The Peter F. Paige Memorial Fund
Contributions in memory of Peter Paige fund an annual award in his name celebrating Peter’s interest in the prehistory of the Santa Barbara Channel and the archaeology of Santa Cruz Island. Peter was a graduate student researching prehistoric Island Chumash fishing practices at the time of his untimely death in 2004. His focus was faunal analysis, seasonality and prehistoric maritime cultures on the Channel Islands. The fund was inaugurated in 2006 and the first award recipient will be selected in 2007.
Please note on your check or correspondence that you wish your gift to be directed to the Peter Paige Memorial fund.

The Fund for Graduate Student Pre-dissertation Research Trips
Anthropology graduate students benefit enormously when they make reconnaissance trips to their intended field sites before seeking research monies from funding agencies. Although the Graduate Division funded such trips many years ago, this funding source is no longer available. Therefore, the department wants to establish a fund to be used exclusively for pre-dissertation research trips.
If you would like to donate to this fund, please note on your check or correspondence that you wish your gift to be directed to the Fund for Graduate Student Pre-dissertation Research Trips.

Adopt-A-Graduate Student Fund
An investment of $1,000 or more is a significant contribution of support for a graduate student during the academic year. If you would like to support a graduate student at this level, a recipient of your support will send you a brief description of her or his research project and update you on their progress. Please let us know if you prefer to support graduate study in archaeology, biosocial anthropology or sociocultural anthropology.
If you would like to donate to this fund, please note on your check or correspondence that you wish the donation to be applied to the Adopt-A-Graduate Student Fund and note the field if desired.

The Department is extremely grateful for your support!
