Graduate Self-Assessment
Each year, all graduate students who are not advanced to candidacy, or who are advancing in the spring quarter of that year are asked to write a candid self-assessment of their progress.
The self-assessment should not exceed two single-spaced pages. Copies should be prepared and distributed to each of your committee members and a copy for the Graduate Advisor (turn this copy in to the Larisa Traga, Graduate Program Assistant) by June 1st. Please include a short curriculum vitae with the self-assessment.
Please address the following criteria, if appropriate:
1. Academic Progress. (Course work, completion of program requirements, deficiencies made up [with reference to previous years evaluation letter, if appropriate], any problems in making progress, etc.)
2. Intellectual Development. (Progress made toward professional goals, development of theoretical approaches, development of research plans, etc.)
3. Professional Activity and Research. (Fieldwork carried out, publications, papers presented, conferences attended, etc.)
4. Teaching. (Progress in acquiring teaching skills, summary of student evaluations)
5. Service Activities. (Services performed for the department, the university, and the public.)
6. Other. (Awards received or other honors, additional information the faculty should have)
7. Goals for Upcoming Year. (Progress to be made, things to be accomplished, areas to be developed, etc.)
Students advanced to candidacy are also encouraged to write the self-assessment and share it with their committee members.
