Environmental anthropology, political ecology, environmental history, STS, invasive species, technology, food studies, fisheries, México, Cuba and the Caribbean.
I am interested in the ways humans categorize species in their environment according to their use; to what they represent and what they embody.
Why are some animals considered ugly and 'bad', while others are viewed as 'good' and worthwhile to save and preserve? Why are some species and not others considered desirable to eat according to their appearance?
My research is related to how invasive species can change cultural habits, human relations, technological development, and ways of representing what is natural, what is local or what is not.
I consider myself a part-time environmental anthropologist and a part-time gastronaut.
