Hunting Photographs
Unlike the Tsimane and most other Amazonians, the Shuar do not use bows
and arrows. In addition
to modern firearms and slightly antiquated muzzle-loading shotguns, they
still rely heavily on blowguns
and curare, a strong muscle-relaxing dart poison that will cause
animals in trees to die almost instantly
and, conveniently, release their grasp of tree limbs so as to fall to
the ground. Here a Shuar uses a blowgun.
