Welcome to the Kamupau Project web site.
Located on this web site are various pages examining contemporary archaeological approaches to rock art recording and conservation strategies in Southern California. Each page focuses on a different aspect of an ongoing documentation project of a complex rock art site called Kamupau. By examining the questions, techniques, and issues which arose through the process of this project, it is hoped that the urgent need to conserve, protect, and properly document such fragile cultural resources will become more widely appreciated.
How to use the Kamupau Pages:
Please note that many of the pages contain large images. It may take a while for each page to download. Most pages (such as this page) are designed in a frames format (i.e. split screen). As with this page, the text is always in the bottom frame. Simply scroll down using the right-hand sidebar, reading the text and clicking on the links. An image will appear in the top frame corresponding to the topic of the link. You can also adjust the top frame by scrolling up or down to get a better look at the larger images. And finally, if the images or backgrounds appear either too dark or light, you may want to adjust your screen (monitor) settings (i.e. brightness and contrast) to suit your tastes.
