Anthropology Major B.A. 2009-2010
Physical Emphasis

Preparation for the Major:

The following courses are required:

  • Anthropology 2 (4 units)
  • Anthropology 3 or 3SS (4 or 5 units)
  • Anthropology 5 (4 units)
  • Anthropology 7 (4 units)
  • ESS 47 Human Anatomy
  • Recommended: MCDB 1A-1AL, MCDB 1B, EEMB 2 and either MCDB 1BL or EEMB 2L
Upper-Division:

Forty upper-division units in anthropology distributed as follows:

A. Anthropology 105 and 12 units from Anthropology 112 , 121 , 121T , 151T , 153 , 153S , 153T , 169 , 180A , 180B (16 total units)
B. Twenty-four additional upper-division units in anthropology (excluding 105)

Note: 12 units of acceptable upper-division courses on subjects related to physical anthropology may be substituted by petition, for electives in Area B. See the related fields list for acceptable courses.

Major Regulations:
  • P/NP GRADING OPTION. Not allowed for any major course (Prep of UD major), including courses applied to the major from other departments.
  • SUBSTITUTIONS In the major requirements permissible only by petition to the department chair and dean.
  • RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS. At least 20 upper-division units in major while in residence at UCSB.
  • G.P.A. REQUIREMENTS At least 2.0 overall average in a) all UD major courses; and b) all major courses (Prep and UD) while in UC.
  • DOUBLE MAJORS With the approval of each department chairperson, up to a total of 8 units may be applied simultaneously to both UD majors.
