Welcome to the Social Archaeology Research Group

The Social Archaeology research group focuses on the archaeology of social inequality and other forms of complexity, identity, and violence in the context of Native American groups in eastern North America, Coastal California, and the northwest coast of Peru. Although diverse in geographical focus our collective research interests are guided by a concern with human agency, practice, political economy, and historical ecology. Group members possess expertise in archaeosurveying methods including topographic mapping and remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), architectural analysis, ceramic and lithic analysis, and quantitative methods.
